Second Foreign Languages:
  The school offer students with language talent a two-year second foreign language. This started as early 1996, with the first course - German - to be taught by Mdm. Luo Peiming, Principal of the school. By now, three second foreign language courses, German, Japanese and French, are offered The course syllabus is a result of language teachers' expertise. The courses focus on the communicative skills as listening and speaking, plus basic grammatical rules. Seven students successful survival in learning and living of a whole year in Germany and Switzerland as part of AFS exchange program justifies the effectiveness of the courses to some extent.
 
 Bilingual Teaching:

   Bilingual teaching experiments have been carried out actively and soundly so as to expand space for English learning and practice. WFLMS Bilingual Teaching Implement Project (for discussion) was drawn up in 1999 with specific objectives, detailed action plans for teacher training and teaching materials development. The earliest trials were done in subjects as Civics and History, whose experience has later been applied into more subjects as Computer Science, Geography, Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Education, etc. With more teacher volunteers in the experiment, Bilingual Teaching Research Section became one of school departments. Regular discussions are held, lesson observation is encouraged, school-based bilingual teacher training is in progress for improvement. Besides, overseas teachers and professional are invited to conduct both weekly and holiday intensive training to teachers. A few bilingual course books will be issued in the near future. As a result, the school is recently registered as "Bilingual Experimental School (first group)" by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
